About Proxxon

The 444 Proxxon MICROMOT products in the catalogue gather round one idea: when the part gets smaller the tool has to get smaller too, but what shrinks is the size, not the power. A micro tool gives very high speed at low power, because a small-diameter cutter only cuts cleanly at high speed — a 3 mm cutter has to turn ten times faster than a 30 mm one to leave the same surface. The system is built on that one requirement.

The machine side sits on five shelves. Mini lathes turn cylindrical work; distance between centres and centre height decide what will fit. Micro drills and mills covers both the hand-held rotary tool and the bench milling machine. Micro saws covers scroll, band, bench circular and mitre; micro sanders and polishers covers belt, delta, random orbit and pencil types. The fifth shelf supplies what makes a machine work to a measurement: compound tables, stands, dividing heads, flexible shafts.

The consumable side is the larger half of the catalogue and means nothing without the machines. The choice is made on teeth per inch, and the practical rule is that at least three teeth must be in the material at all times.

On the lathe and mill side the accessory changes what the machine can do. A three-jaw chuck self-centres round and hexagonal stock; a four-jaw independent chuck holds square and irregular work and is the only way to hold a part deliberately off centre. The geometry of the lathe tool decides the surface it produces, and a compound table turns free-hand work into measured work.
