Calipers measure outside and inside diameters, depths and steps. They read three ways: a vernier caliper on its scale, a dial caliper on a dial, a digital caliper on a display. Range, resolution (0.01 / 0.02 / 0.05 mm) and jaw form decide the choice; groove, point, long-jaw and single-jaw calipers reach geometries a standard jaw cannot.
