Gauges check fit rather than measure: a plug gauge checks a bore, a ring gauge a shaft, in go/no-go pairs against the tolerance limits. Thread gauges are separate for metric, fine, UNC, BSP and NPT threads. Pitch and radius gauges find thread pitch and corner radius by comparison.
