The GFB Helicoil Thread Insert cuts a M12x1.25 metric thread, is 2.0 D long. A helicoil insert is a coil of diamond-section stainless wire: wound into an oversized tapped hole it forms a thread of the original size and greater strength. Its length is given as a multiple of the thread diameter — 1.5 D is general purpose, 2 D and above give more hold in soft alloys. Used to repair a stripped thread and to reinforce threads in aluminium, magnesium and cast housings from the start.
