A cutting-in brush is the brush that draws paint along the line where wall meets ceiling, wall meets frame, or one colour meets another. It covers what the roller cannot reach: the roller paints the field quickly, the cutting-in brush keeps the line straight. The flat bristle block tapers toward the tip, so the brush does not run over the edge when it is laid against it. The Eco series is the consumable brush for day-to-day interior work: water based emulsion and satin paint, primer and whitewash. It is washed out at the end of the job or simply replaced, and it is the series bought by the box on busy sites. The number is the width of the brush: a small number is for narrow surfaces, edges and corners, a large number covers more area in the same time. A job is usually run with two numbers rather than one — the wide one for the field, the narrow one to finish the edges.
