Manual metal arc (MMA) welding carries the filler metal and its protective slag cover in a single stick, so no gas cylinder and no wire feeder are needed — which is why it remains the most widely used process on site, outdoors and in repair and maintenance work. The covering type sets the character of the weld: a rutile covering gives easy arc striking and a smooth bead, while a basic covering produces low-hydrogen deposits that resist dynamic loading and cracking. ESR 13 is a rutile covered electrode classified AWS A5.1 E6013 / EN ISO 2560-A E 42 0 RR 12. It suits light steel fabrication, ironwork, wrought iron, agricultural machinery, boilers and vehicle chassis and body work, together with the repair and maintenance welding that goes with them. It runs in every position except vertical-down and works equally well on AC and DC, and is particularly suited to horizontal fillet welds. Arc striking and re-striking are easy, the fine droplet transfer leaves a smooth bead, and the slag lifts by itself. This box holds 100 electrodes measuring 2.50 x 350 mm.
