Utility Knives
A utility knife is a cutter whose blade is never sharpened — it is snapped or replaced — which is where its consistent sharpness comes from. The range here covers snap-off and trapezoid models plus replacement blades.

Snap-off and trapezoid blades
Snap-off blades come in 9 mm and 18 mm: 9 mm for paper, film and thin material, 18 mm for cardboard, carpet and insulation. When the tip dulls, it snaps off to expose a fresh edge.
A trapezoid blade is replaced whole rather than snapped. It is thicker and more rigid, so it does not flex in carpet, vinyl and hard materials. Choose trapezoid where cutting force matters, snap-off for fine work.
Safe use
Always cut away from the body, and extend only as much blade as the material needs — a long blade flexes and can snap and fly. Used segments go into a closed blade box, never straight into the bin.
Frequently Asked Questions
9 mm or 18 mm blades?
9 mm for paper, film and thin material; 18 mm for cardboard, carpet and insulation. A narrow blade flexes in thick material.
When do I need a trapezoid blade?
For carpet, vinyl and hard materials. It is thick and rigid and will not flex mid-cut, where a snap-off blade would break.
Can utility blades be sharpened?
No. Snap-off blades expose a fresh edge when the tip is snapped; trapezoid blades are replaced whole.
How far should the blade extend?
Only as far as the material is thick. Extra blade flexes under side load and can snap and fly.
How should used blades be disposed of?
In a closed blade container. Loose blades cut through bin liners and cause injuries.
