Spray Guns

An air spray gun atomises paint with compressed air and lays it on in a film thinner and more even than a brush or roller can. This shelf carries spray guns, model-specific nozzle and needle sets, texture, underseal, underbody coating and sandblasting guns, and an airbrush.

Choosing a gun

On a gravity gun the paint falls from a cup on top, little is wasted and it runs at lower air pressure; it is the gun for automotive paint and clear coat. A suction gun carries a larger cup below and needs refilling less often on large surfaces.

Nozzle size follows the paint's viscosity: fine for clear and top coats, medium for base coat, large for primer and filler. Nozzle and needle are changed together and fit only their own gun model.

Special-purpose guns

Texture guns spray textured paint, underseal and underbody guns protective coating, and sandblasting guns grit, all on compressed air. They run on the same compressor line as a spray gun; the compressor's air delivery must cover the gun's consumption.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which nozzle size should I choose?

Fine for clear and top coat, medium for base coat, large for primer and filler. The paint's data sheet gives the recommended range.

  • What compressor does a spray gun need?

Its air delivery (l/min) must exceed the gun's consumption; otherwise pressure drops and the paint goes on in coarse droplets.
