Pallet Trucks

A pallet truck slides its forks under a pallet, raises it about 20 cm on a hydraulic pump and moves it horizontally. It is the most used machine in a warehouse — every journey a pallet makes starts with one. The range here covers manual, powered and weighing models rated from 2,000 to 3,000 kg.

Choosing fork length and chassis height

Fork length follows the pallet. The standard 1150 mm fork suits both the 800x1200 mm Euro pallet and the 1000x1200 mm industrial pallet. Short forks buy manoeuvring room in narrow aisles and lifts; long forks take two pallets nose to tail.

Chassis height is the second constraint: low-profile models fit under shallow-entry pallets and sheet-metal stillages. A pallet a standard truck cannot enter stops the job outright, which is why the pallet type is worth measuring before ordering.

Manual or powered?

A manual pallet truck is pulled by the operator and is more than enough for a business moving a few pallets a day. On a powered truck both the lift and the travel are electric, and the operator walks with the machine instead of pushing the load.

Distance decides it: if aisles run beyond 30 metres, if there are ramps, or if one operator moves dozens of pallets a day, a powered model repays the difference quickly.

Wheels and body material

Nylon wheels give the lowest rolling resistance on flat, clean floors; polyurethane runs quieter on rougher surfaces and does not mark the floor. Food and pharmaceutical plants specify stainless or galvanised bodies, which take regular washdown and damp.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much can a pallet truck carry?

The models here are rated 2,000-3,000 kg. For a standard Euro pallet load, 2,000 kg is the right choice in most businesses; specify 2,500-3,000 kg for continuous heavy loads.

  • How high does a pallet truck lift?

Typically from 85 mm to 190-200 mm. That is enough to move the load; putting it on a rack requires a stacker.

  • Which fork length should I choose?

For an 800x1200 mm Euro pallet, the 1150 mm standard fork is correct. Choose 800 mm short forks for half pallets and narrow aisles, and 1500-2000 mm long forks to carry two pallets nose to tail.

  • What is a low-profile pallet truck for?

It fits under shallow-entry pallets, sheet-metal stillages and special carriers. If you have a pallet type a standard truck cannot enter, you need the low-profile model.

  • How accurate is a weighing pallet truck?

The models here weigh to about ±2 kg. That is enough for despatch and goods-in; weighing that forms the basis of a commercial transaction requires a verified scale.

  • How long does a powered pallet truck run?

It depends on battery capacity and duty. The models here are sized to cover a typical shift; heavy use should be planned around a spare battery or an opportunity charge.
