Reflective Tapes

Reflective tapes are listed in 5 cm and 10 cm widths in white, red, yellow and metallised finishes, with honeycomb and ECE 104 approved variants. They are used to raise the night-time visibility of vehicles, trailers, equipment and site elements.

ECE 104 Approved, Honeycomb and Metallised

ECE 104 approved tapes are produced to the regulation covering the contour marking of vehicle sides and rears; we list 5 cm approved tapes in white, red and yellow along with segmented versions. Segmented tape is for contour marking where the line must be broken rather than continuous.

Honeycomb tapes are the common, economical type; metallised tapes are brighter and picked up from further away. Both come in 5 and 10 cm, with 10 cm preferred on large vehicle and equipment surfaces.

  • 5 cm ECE 104 approved: white, red, yellow; solid and segmented
  • Honeycomb reflective tape: 5 and 10 cm, economical site option
  • Metallised reflective tape: 5 and 10 cm, higher return
  • Colour convention: yellow/white along the sides, red at the rear
  • Also used on delineator, post, barrier and equipment surfaces

Application and Surface Preparation

Surface preparation decides adhesion life: the surface must be clean, dry and free of grease. In cold conditions warming the surface improves the bond, and the tape should be pressed down along its length to work out air pockets.

Beyond vehicle marking, the tapes are used on trailer and semi-trailer contours, plant machinery, containers and site equipment, and on delineator, post and barrier bodies. For fleet-scale requirements our sales team can help plan roll quantities.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does ECE 104 approved mean?

ECE 104 is the international regulation covering retroreflective materials used for vehicle contour marking. Approved tapes are produced to the optical and physical properties it sets out, and should be specified wherever vehicle contour marking is required.

  • Should I choose 5 cm or 10 cm?

5 cm is the common width for vehicle contour marking. 10 cm gives greater visibility at distance on large surfaces such as plant machinery, containers and site equipment. If your application is regulated vehicle marking, use approved 5 cm products.

  • Where is segmented tape used?

Segmented tape is used on vehicle sections where contour marking must be broken rather than continuous. Solid tape forms an unbroken line; which one applies where is set by the marking rules for that vehicle type.
