Where it is used and how it works
In thin sheet and metal profile leaves, cutting a mortise pocket either weakens the leaf or is simply impossible. The rim lock is therefore fixed to the surface, worked by a cylinder from outside and a knob or latch from inside.
Electric versions work with door entry and access control systems: pressing the release frees the latch. Automatic and photocell models are used on apartment entrances. During fitting, the keep must align precisely with the lock; a misaligned keep stops the door closing.
