Tool Grinders

A tool grinder puts a dull drill bit or end mill back into service. The tool is held in a collet and brought to the wheel in a fixture; because the angle comes from the fixture, not the hand, every regrind repeats the same geometry. This shelf carries drill bit grinders, end mill grinders and universal tool and cutter grinders.

Drill bit grinders

A drill bit grinder regrinds the point angle and lip clearance of a twist drill. Two figures matter: the diameter range (Ø3-13 mm, Ø13-30 mm) and the point angle range. 118° is common for general steel, 130-135° for hard and stainless material.

The diameter range is set by the collet set; diameters outside the standard set are ground with optional collet sets.

End mill grinders

An end mill grinder regrinds the end teeth and clearance angle of an end mill. On fixed-angle models the clearance is set at the factory; on adjustable models (0°-5°, say) it changes with material and cutter type.

Universal tool and cutter grinders

A universal machine sharpens drill bits, end mills and lathe tools on one body through interchangeable attachments, with point, helix and negative angles set separately. It suits maintenance and toolroom shops sharpening many different tools in small numbers.

HSS and carbide

The wheel supplied is for HSS tooling. Carbide drills and cutters need a carbide (diamond/CBN) wheel, offered as an option by manufacturer code.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is regrinding cheaper than buying new?

For medium and large drills and end mills, yes: a regrind costs a fraction of a new tool and a tool can be reground many times. On very small diameters the gap narrows.

  • Can carbide drills be sharpened?

Yes, with a carbide wheel. The wheel supplied is for HSS; a carbide wheel is in the optional accessories list with its code.

  • Is a collet set included?

Yes, a collet set covering the machine's standard range and a collet holder are standard. Optional collet sets cover sizes outside it.

  • Which point angle should I grind?

118° for general steel, 130-135° for hard, stainless and cast material. The machine's point angle range is in the specification table.
