How to choose a welding generator
Two figures are read together. The first is welding current: the maximum amperage decides the electrode diameter and material thickness the machine can handle. A 200 A machine works comfortably with 2.5–3.25 mm electrodes; a 300 A machine takes 4 mm and above, and thicker material. The second is the auxiliary output that powers grinders, drills and site lighting.
The third factor is duty cycle: how many minutes out of ten the machine can weld continuously at full current. On continuous welding work that matters more than the peak current figure.
